COVID-19 Re-opening Policy & Release Form

Schools across the United States canceled in-person classes beginning in March 2020 to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus. As we endeavor to safely reopen our school for VBS and the academic school year we have put in place the following guidelines which cover these three areas: attendance, social distancing and hygiene and cleaning.

ATTENDANCE – All staff will be required to wear a mask daily. All students above 3 years of age will be encouraged, but not required, to wear a mask also. All staff and students will be screened for fever and other COVID-19 symptoms prior to entering the school each day. Children and staff with a fever in excess of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit, or exhibiting other symptoms of COVID-19, will not be allowed to enter the school. (Parents must inform the school of any international travel before the student enters the building) We will also be minimizing class sizes and movement between classes. Groupings shall not exceed 10 children, and interactions between classes will be limited. (Staff shall be assigned to and remain with their class) If a student or staff member exhibit any symptoms of the virus or if they report having been in contact with someone who is infected they will be immediately sent home and the Plainfield Board of Health will be notified. If symptoms are identified upon arrival, the student or staff member will be sent home.

SOCIAL DISTANCING – We will make every attempt to keep students at a safe distance from one another (3 to 6 feet apart) and also to reduce the number of people with whom they interact face-to-face.. As previously stated students will remain in their classroom with their teacher. We are aware that social distancing may be difficult with the younger children and that, while distance should be maintained as much as possible, comfort and contact for the younger children in our care should be maintained.

Social distancing outside – Arrival – When possible student should be let out of the car, one at a time, to enter the building. Family members and visitors are not allowed in the school except when needed in the younger classrooms (k3-k5)

Lunchtime-students will be required to wash their hands with soap before and after lunch. They will have their lunch in their classrooms as usual. Their desk will be cleaned with Clorox wipes before and after meals. Shared food and buffet style food will not be allowed.

Recess-outdoor playtime will be allowed in small classroom sized groups. We will stagger the times for recess for each class.

HYGIENE AND CLEANING
Hygiene-As indicated previously teachers will be required to wear a mask at all times. Students older than three will be encouraged but not required to wear a mask. Frequent hand washing and the use of hand sanitizer will be required.

Cleaning -there will be frequent cleaning especially in common spaces/areas. High-touch areas such as door knobs and desks will be wiped down frequently. Windows and doors will be left open as much as possible to maintain ventilation and tablets and computers will be wiped down after each use. Sharing of materials will be discouraged but when used will be cleaned before being used by another group of students. Children are encouraged to bring a toy from home daily. Also, bedding is required to go home daily to be cleaned. Our building will be cleaned daily with a chlorine-based solution, this includes the furniture, the door frames, door knobs, sinks and floors

It is our prayer that these social distancing techniques along with the careful cleaning and hygiene techniques we have put in place will reduce the spread of the virus in our school and protect the health and safety of our students and staff.
